Barcelona Sailing Week is the course we run every week of the season. It is the reason weexist, and it is the course we know how to teach better than any other.
Seven days on the water in the same waters our instructors sail every weekend. Full ASA 101, 103, and 104 certification by Friday.
Barcelona itself as the base – a city built on a working harbor for two thousand years, where Phoenicians, Romans, and the Catalan trading fleet each leftsomething behind; where Gaudí’s unfinished basilica turns pink in the late light and La Boqueria market opens before sunrise; where you can walk from the dock to the Gothic Quarter and eat anchovies at a counter in a square built before Columbus crossed.

The Mediterranean here is a real teaching sea. Reliable afternoon breezes from the south-southeast, glassy mornings for docking practice, thermal patterns that build predictablyas the day warms. You will learn on a coast where the conditions cooperate – where the wind arrives when it should, the sea state is manageable, and the passages between practice grounds are short enough to make the most of every hour aboard. It is a sailor’s classroom.
Each morning we shove off from Barcelona and work a different sail plan – sometimes north along the Maresme coast, sometimes south toward Garraf, sometimes into the open waters east of the port for pure sail-handling drills. You will helm through Barcelona’s shipping channels, tack across the Barceloneta anchorage, run downwind toward Montjuïc with the whole city as your backdrop. By Wednesday you will read the seabreeze before it arrives. By Friday you will have handled the boat in every point of sail,every wind strength this coast delivers, and every docking situation from a quiet marina to a tight Barcelona marina slot.
Midweek we sail for a night away – south to Garraf, Sitges, or Port Ginesta, or north to Badalona, El Masnou, Premià de Mar, or Arenys de Mar, depending on the wind and theweek.
Garraf is intimate, tucked at the foot of the limestone cliffs with Gaudí’s winecellars (Celler Güell) above the harbor and grilled calcots at the port-side restaurant inwinter.
Sitges is the jewel – whitewashed old town, modernista mansions on the seafront, art galleries in every third doorway, the Church of Sant Bartomeu on the promontory overthe sea, and the best sunset views on the Catalan coast; dinner at a terrace on the Passeig and the night takes care of itself.
Port Ginesta is the large modern marina with the best clubhouse restaurant on this coast.
To the north, Badalona is Barcelona’s near-neighbor marina with the Serralada Litoral behind it; El Masnou puts you at the edge of the DO Alella wine country (a short walk inland takes you into the vineyards); Premià and Arenys de Mar are quiet, working, real Catalan port towns – the Arenys llotja fish auction still runs every afternoon on the quay, and the gambes d’Arenys (sweet, small, grilled with olive oil) are the local delicacy you order first and ask about afterward.
Your captain chooses the direction based on the forecast – one night away, real passage under yourbelt, without spending the whole week away from Barcelona.
Sleep aboard or ashore – your choice. Some of our students want the full live aboard experience: cabin, quiet nights on the water, coffee on deck at sunrise.
Others want their own bed in a Barcelona hotel – La Boqueria market in the morning, the Picasso Museum between dockings, dinner in the Gothic Quarter, tapas at a counter in El Born, cava at a table in Barceloneta that’s been there since before your grandfather was born, Gaudí’s Sagrada Família turning pink in the late light, rooftop bars above the Eixample that fill up at midnight and don’t thin out until the city tells you to go home.
Barcelona takes food and architecture more seriously than almost any other city on earth, and your week here is a week in that city as much as it is a week on the water. Both work.

The Mediterranean is a dynamic sailing environment and your instructor will always make routing decisions with your safety, comfort, and learning as the priority.
Flexibility is part of the experience – and sometimes the unplanned days turn out to be the ones that stick with you.
