New destination alert: the Canary Islands. Intro New destination alert: the Canary Islands.

Introducing the Trade-Wind Week: 7 days, 8 nights sailing Tenerife and La Gomera, aboard a 46’ monohull. Earn ASA 101, 103, and 104 in one trip.

From Marina Amarilla Golf, we sail to Los Cristianos, cross through the Punta de Teno acceleration zone to San Sebastián de La Gomera (the port where Columbus took his last provisions in 1492), round to Valle Gran Rey past the basalt cliffs of Los Órganos, back to Los Gigantes beneath Tenerife’s sea cliffs, and home via Las Galletas.

Mount Teide watches over nearly every anchorage, and every stop brings local culture and food ashore: cherne a la plancha, papas arrugadas con mojo, almogrote, and fresh catch straight off the boats. 🐟

Winter trades, warm water, real passage-making.

A family that sails together. ⚓️ Gregory, Tianny, A family that sails together. ⚓️

Gregory, Tianny, and Piper, from Tennessee, spent their learn to sail vacation with us this week and left with the full set: ASA 101, 103, and 104 certifications for every one of them. They sailed up the coast from Barcelona to Blanes and back, stopping in Arenys de Mar along the way.

This family worked incredibly hard all week, on the helm, charting, docking and undocking, and it showed. They leave Barcelona as confident, capable sailors ready to charter a boat anywhere in the world. ⛵

That’s the heart of a Red Sky week: real certification, real seamanship, and real exploring. You don’t just learn to sail, you get to know the ports you stop in, wander the towns, and eat the local food along the way. In Arenys, that meant celebrating Gregory and Tianny’s wedding anniversary ashore, a perfect way to mark the occasion mid-trip.

Huge thanks to Captain Belén Castro @belencastromartin for teaching this incredible week, and to Captain Ricardo Sainz @ricardo_redskysailing and his beautiful S/V Surus for carrying this family every mile of it.

Congratulations to our newest ASA 101/103/104 certified sailors!

ASA 114 complete! This weekend’s crew earned thei ASA 114 complete!
This weekend’s crew earned their Cruising Catamaran certification on a luxury Bali 4.2, with about as good as Barcelona fall weather gets. Blue skies, flat seas, and a proper overnight: we sailed up to Masnou and docked for the night, getting real docking practice on a cat, then settled in for Spanish tapas and drinks aboard, enjoying every bit of that beautiful, comfortable boat. A chiringuito on the beach closed out the evening, and the next day it was back to Barcelona to finish the course.

From catamaran sail trim and twin-engine docking to anchoring, systems aboard, and overnight passage planning, this crew covered it all this weekend. 🍹

Huge thanks to Captain Belén Castro @belencastromartin who flew in from Greece to teach the course, and to Sondevela Luxury Catamarans @sondevelabarcelona for the charter boat that made it all possible.

A week of island sailing, and we ate as well as we A week of island sailing, and we ate as well as we sailed.

This crew crossed from Barcelona to Mallorca and spent the week working the Tramuntana coast: dramatic coves, hand-plotted courses at the chart table, and turns on the helm through some of the most spectacular anchorages in the Med.

And the food kept up the whole way. Ensaimadas and croissants on deck for breakfast, a market-town lunch stop, seafood for dinner and local sobrasada between watches. Then back in Barcelona, we closed the week properly: fideuà and a toast at the RCNB, overlooking the marina we started from.

This is what a Red Sky sailing vacation looks like: real seamanship by day, great meals to close out the day.

New week, new crew, new destination. This week’s New week, new crew, new destination.

This week’s learn to sail vacation is headed across to Mallorca. Before the lines come off, the students are at the chart table plotting the route themselves: courses, distances, and all. Real navigation with a pencil, triangles and dividers, the way it’s meant to be learned.

Then it’s open water, a full crossing, and a skipper’s-eye view of what it takes to sail a boat from Barcelona to the Balearics.

Night sails under skies like this, laughs at the dock, and a crew that went from first tack to fully certified. This is what a week aboard with Red Sky looks like. 🌅
