This is a transition course designed to build upon the skills learned in ASA 101 with the objective of becoming a competent, safe cruising sailor. You will learn to communicate effectively with your crew so that you will soon be able to become the “skipper” of a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered keelboat between 25 feet and 35 feet in length by day in moderate wind and sea conditions.
This course is the next step into the world of coastal cruising. It provides the necessary knowledge to cruise safely in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat of about 28 – 35 feet in length, in moderate winds and sea conditions. You will learn the basics of daytime coastal cruising in moderate wind and sea conditions including the recommended safety equipment, forecasting weather, reading navigational charts, marlinspike seamanship, boat handling under sail and power and more.
This course is offered as a 3 day course from 09:00 AM – 04:00 PM. The last day is spent working with you on the written and practical testing for your ASA certification. ASA exam fees not included (99$ per pax).
Basic Keelboat – BKB (ASA 101)
€999 per person
This is a three day, two-night intermediate cruising standard designed for individuals with cruising experience who have mastered the skills contained in ASA 101 and ASA 103. You will be able to act as skipper or crew of a sloop-rigged, auxiliary powered keelboat of approximately 30- to 45-foot sailing by day in coastal waters.
Acquire confidence through our 100% hands-on training program. You will provision the boat, calculate the compass courses, use the electronics to navigate to your destination, steer the boat, trim the sails, learn to use and care for the roller furling genoa, stand a watch, set an anchor, pick up a mooring, and learn to trouble-shoot the boat systems. With successful completion of this class, the student will receive Bareboat Charter ASA certification.
Deck shoes with white soles and a warm jacket are essential year round. Casual comfortable sports clothing is recommended – layers are the way to go. Please pack all personal gear in a soft case or duffle bag, and remember that boats have very limited storage space.

The ASA 103/104 course is a 5-day, 4-night course covering the material of ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising and ASA 104 Bareboat Charter. The course is built like a short charter vacation and is great for families or couples interested in chartering in the Mediterranean.
It often makes sense for students to combine 2 or more ASA certifications into one extended class. We can save experienced sailors time and money by allowing moderately experienced sailors to test out of a lower certification. For those with limited time away from work, you can earn multiple certifications into a shorter period of time.
Basic Keelboat – BKB (ASA 101) and the ability to demonstrate competency in all knowledge and skills elements of those standards.
ASA recommends a minimum of 24-80 sailing hours before undertaking ASA 103 & ASA 104 Combination
